NCGT regularly performs pipeline patrols observing surface conditions, searching for leaks, construction activity, and other factors that could affect operations and safety.
Pipeline Signs & Markers
Signs and line markers are used to indicate the approximate location of our buried pipelines. Our pipelines are marked with yellow markers, at road crossings, railroad crossings, rivers, creeks, etc. Markers display the product transported, the name of the pipeline operator, and a telephone number to reach the operator. Federal law mandates the installation of pipeline markers and landowners should notify the operator if markers are damaged or accidentally removed on their properties.

SMELL GAS OR SUSPECT A GAS LEAK?
Call the NCGT Emergency Line immediately at 888-487-5665. If there is an active fire call 911 immediately.
RECOGNIZING A GAS LEAK
A harmless chemical is added to the natural gas stream giving it a distinctive odor to help detect leaks. Below are signs of a leak on or near the pipeline rights-of-way:
“Rotten egg” odor or petroleum odor
A hissing sound or shrill blowing / roaring noise
Dirt or water being blown or thrown into the air
Bubbles appearing on the surface of water
Patches of brown or dead vegetation in a green field
Call Before You Dig
From major construction work to home projects, dial 8-1-1 or visit OHIO811’s e-dig to request utility locates before you dig. Allow at least 48 hours for marking (excluding weekends and legal holidays).

Working near our pipeline? Structures, digs, or equipment crossings in the right-of-way can endanger yourself and others and may require prior approval. Check the guidelines and submit the Encroachment Request form.
